Benji broke his shit!

So we were skating this spot, and Next Up's own Benji Perez tried a f/s tailslide warming up....
 And then this happened.
It looked extremely painful, but Benji was calm as hell.
I'm pretty sure I'd be screaming and freaking out at this point, but Benji said calmly, "Ahh, it burns." Then he called his brother, and left, hopefully to go to a hospital to have his thumb straighten out.
Stay up Benji! Next Up needs you!

People....

...are always fun to photograph.
Whether you are young or old,
black or white,
male or female,
native or foreign,
dead or alive,
in good times,
bad times,
at home,
or on the road,
no matter who what or where, you are a person. And that alone makes you worthy of a portrait.

"Enter '11 in Heaven" (New Year's in Santa Cruz)

After weeks of constant rain in Orange County, Vitor Borger, Binho Hatman and I decided to go north for New Year's in the hopes that god would stop pissing on Santa Cruz long enough for us to get some footage for the new Turf video at some not-so-blown-out spots. So the day before New Years Eve, we packed up and got on the road...
I'm still waiting to see a headline in the news like "Southwest flight crash lands on 405 freeway." Maybe 2011 will be the year... Photo: Broger.
Always a good time on the freeways of SoCal. Photo: Broger.
Met up with the Hatman and got some comida mexicana.
Brahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sparking the broccoli...
On the road again! Photo: Hatman.
A quick stop in Santa Clarita and we continue toward The Bay. Photo: Broger.
"The Real Surf City!" Photo: Hatman.
Broger Means Business. Photo: Hatman.
Santa Cruz High: The spot everyone in Santa Cruz hates but I can never get sick of.
Broger likes it too.
Hatman getting artsy.
These girls were very friendly but I'm not sure what they were doing at school during winter break.
Off to the the park benches a few blocks away...
More artsiness...

Can you guess what was happening?
And finally we ended at good ol' Derby park where Vitor sailed a kickflip over the pyramid to end our skating for the year 2010.
I'm not sure if I actually took this photo or if this was just a dream I had....
But Hatman outside of Upper Crust is as real as it gets!
A very creepy-looking Broger about to ring in the New Year.
Rain on Jan. 1st meant that Valencia was pretty much our only option (As far as I know they haven't opened a Berrics in Santa Cruz county yet).
It's no Hollywood High, but they do have a bunch of crazy crap on the walls.
Purty pictures everywhere.

Binho pops, grinds, and slides, and that's as much schralping as we could get in that soggy day.

Mega-multi-media-master Binho Hatman, documentation in progress.
Thats what he was looking at if you were wondering.
Apparently people still go to the movies despite the tickets being more expensive than buying the DVD of the movie you went to see...
Downtown, thats your home address, you live downtown.
No cafe Brasil for the brasileiros this time (they were closed early those lazy brazilians).
Somehow we ended up in Arlen, Texas on accident. No wait, thats Mission St.
Thats more like it...
"Your order number is.... James Brown's mugshot." This place kills it.
B&V in B&W.
"Reese's peanut butter cup S'mores" was actually on their menu.
If you like Salsa music check out this guy's site here and buy one of his books: http://www.timba.com/
Almost 9 o'clock (I made that watercolor thing when I was a kid by the way).
W H R d S (Binho).
Another spot in SC I can never get sick of...
"Vitor, your kickflips are so amazing..."
Even Marcus couldn't scare the water away from this damn ledge.
These were the kind of clouds we were battling against.
You wanna skate it?? Hit me up!!
Well shit, can't skate? Might as well get artsy...
HAARP antenna.
Mandatory stop at Zuniga's for a margarita from Jesus...
one more artsy photo.....
And we are back on the way to SoCal! Photo: Broger.
Vitor likes to get artsy too. Photo: Broger.
Not sure how many Ninjas Turtles ice cream bars this guy was able to sell in San Ardo, but I wish him the best of luck. Photo: Broger.
As the sun set down we were driving through Pismo Beach, so we stopped to check it out...
At least we had nice weather on the drive home (would've been nice while we were trying to skate though). May not have been the most productive trip but it was still a good time with good friends. The weather was mean but the people were nice, which is typical of a small, sleepy coastal town like Santa Cruz. See y'all next year!
